First some announcements, then I’ll get to my point.
This Saturday - 6pm to 9pm
Rock City’s Enchanted Garden of Lights
Rock City, Lookout Mountain, GA

This isn’t one big long show, but a series of little ones. There’ll be
Christmas music of course, but it’s the last day so I get a little loose
and I usually play Todd Young’s “see rock city” song at least once.
Sunday’s show at the Eclectic School House of Music in Copperhill, TN has
been canceled due to the weather.
Which reminds me that the pavilion at Rock City has ample heat and a big
ol’ fireplace.
There’s still time to order my 2018 dulcimer calendar. It’s a small desk
calendar made from a repurposed CD case and features 14 of my favorite
builder’s instruments. You can get them in one click from my web page,

I was telling Trish that I hate the week between Christmas and New Years
because the TV and the Radio do nothing but “year end reviews” and I don’t
like looking back, only forward. That said, I’ve learned in the last couple
of years about the importance of the deep past, and the long memory. I’ve
learned more than ever that we build the future on top of the past, or else
they’re just castles made of sand.
So with that in mind, I took the ring my great-grandfather gave my
great-grandmother in 1901 and asked Trish to marry me. If you’re on
facebook you probably already knew that. But I don’t mind shouting it from
the rooftops.
SO that my friends is why this isn’t my “year in review” email. I’ve had an
amazing year and learned a lot of great things that I hope to use moving
forward. Here’s some of my 2018 preview...
I hope to post more stuff online, more music, videos, tab whatever. Some
via facebook, some via other places. I hope to make a patreon account so I
can get up in the morning and spend more time making music than writing
emails. And I plan to go to more places and do more things. And to make
more art...like drawings and paintings...in addition to all the music. I
went to school for art, but haven’t done it in a long, long time. That
needs to end.
Finally, I want to say as always I’ve ever so grateful to all of you on
this email list, to the festival and club owners who hire me and to all of
you who come to shows and buy stuff. I literally can’t so this without you.
So best wishes to all of you for a great 2018. As my dad said to me just
yesterday “Prosperity in the new year and confusion to your enemies”
