This Sunday I’ll be in Mentone, Alabama playing a Christmas bluegrass
brunch. I’ll be there for three hours, so you’ll probably hear everything I
know how to play.
Christmas is just around the corner but there’s still time to get some last
minute shopping done. In fact, any orders placed before noon next Wednesday
can still be shipped in time for the holiday. Here are some suggestions for
great stocking stuffers and you can get them all by going to butchross.com
they’re right on the homepage.
The 2018 Dulcimer Calendar
Over the past year I’ve been collecting photos from some (though not all)
of my favorite dulcimer builders to make a desk calendar. I got the idea
from seeing a friend of mine use an old cassette case as a business card
holder. So this calendar sits in a recycle CD jewel case, you can see
photos of it at butchross.com
The Dulcimer Christmas Card
My first Christmas CD “the Dulcimer Christmas Card” is already ten years
old, yet remains one of my best sellers. It’s a baker’s dozen of Christmas
classics played on mountain dulcimer and other instruments including banjo,
guitar, upright bass, electric dulcimer and a Hungarian zither called a
citera. A companion tab book is also available. Get it at butchross.com
The Crash Bang Dulcimer Christmas CD
Fun and funky versions of more of my favorite Christmas tunes like “Jesu,
Joy of Man’s Desiring”;”Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies” and a 5/4 take on
“Little Drummer Boy” with Guy George. This year’s version also features my
cover of the Paul Simon song “Getting Ready for Christmas Day” with my
friend Amber Fults and the amazing Mark Holder on slide guitar. I made a
video for it featuring scenes from the Christmas Story, you can watch that
here. https://youtu.be/fXK_vUDHPp0 there’s also instructions there for how
you can download that song for free.
You can buy the companion tab book too (the dulcimer part of this record is
actually not as out there as the rest of the recordings) and you can
download the CD from bandcamp where you’ll get two bonus tracks as well.
And again you can get to all of this from butchross.com
And finally, the new album
Found Objects was released back in May and I still have people coming up to
me to tell me how good it is. I’m proud of it, and I’m thrilled that other
people like it too. It’s also available as a download and that too features
a bonus track. butchross.com
Again any orders placed by Wednesday noon will get to you in time for
Christmas. And if you’re in Mentone this weekend come hear me at the
Mentone MACC (which was formerly called Kamama’s) get some food at the
Plowshares Bistro and join us.
C-ya out there.
