OVG
This weekend is the official end of Winter (tho' it should be noted NOT the
first festival of the year). I'll be teaching Dulcimer & Uke workshops as
well as a Songwriting class with Trish Wileman.
Two things about this weekend...
The workshop I'm teaching is "arranging for clubs" it's a method that
allows people of different skill levels to play together. I've been working
on this concept for a couple of years, and I think I got it right where I
want it. If you're planning on going to OVG, I want to especially encourage
BOTH beginner and advanced players to attend this workshop. The more
diverse the range of players the easier it will be to see how well this can
work with your club.
Also, regarding the Singer/Songwriter workshop: If you are planning to take
our class at OVG we're looking for a volunteer! Part of our class is
coaching someone in in a positive way in front of the class so the rest of
the class can learn from it! Maybe there's a song that you'd like to tweak;
to sing a little better or fix a lyric you're stuck on. If you'd be willing
to help the class learn by volunteering to coach in front of them please
inbox me (butch at butchross.com *please don't just hit reply to this email*).
Dulcimer Road Podcast
If you've been following me on Facebook you'll know that Trish and I have
started an online monthly webcast where we talk with and about the people
we come in contact with on our travels through the dulcimer world. Episode
2 will be out VERY soon, but you can still watch episode1 at our YouTube
channel. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCW81eKe-rPp19QL3AUFu2Pg Don't
forget to subscribe so that you can be informed as soon the next one comes
out (which will be early next week).
New Book
Finally, I have a new book. It based on the "arranging for clubs" workshop
I mentioned above and it's called "In 3 parts." It's 12 popular jam tunes
arranged for beginner, intermediate and advanced players to play together.
I think this is a great way to keep all the members of your club interested
and engaged in the music that you play. With plenty to keep everyone
challenged and room for players of every level to grow and improve.
So that's the news for now. The book will be up on the website next week,
as will the webcast. Our March webcast will be LIVE with Trish and I
playing Irish tunes with Dan Landrum and Casey Phillips. In the meantime I
will have headed south to the Lagniappe Dulcimer Fete for the first time,
and I am really looking forward to that.
C-you on the road.
