Hey guys:
In what is the worst kept secret in our city's history MTV is in town
filming the reality show "the Real World". As a reward for his new found
celebrity, a harbinger of his career in the footlights (remember this is the
TV show that spawned such household names as Heather B., Rebecca Blasband)
and Eric from The Grind) the cast mate was at a local bar and had a chair
thrown at him.
This is why I'm a little reluctant to tell you that I am just back from the
Roscoe Village Dulcimer Festival, and the Mid-East Regional Dulcimer
Competition. I'm not big on blowing my own horn here but you are reading an
email from the third best dulcimer player in the Mid-east United States.
There are apparently nine of us.
All kidding aside, I had a wonderful wonderful time. In addition to third in
the regionals I placed first in the Dulcimer/vocal contest. I come home with
two plaques and press release to my hometown newspaper. (I figured the
DuBois Thrifty Shopper is more like to give me column inches than the
Philadelphia Inquirer) I met and re-connected with a ton of wonderful
people, played my heart out and didn't even mind the fact that it rained all
weekend.
Soon (and I am dreadfully behind the 8-ball on this one) I will be putting
up the new dulcimer site. Which means among other things, the this is THE
LAST WEEK FOR FREE MP3s. I've taken a few down in past months, only to
receive emails, mostly from folks who were still getting around to it,
asking me to put them back up. :-). But I'm getting killed on server
over-usage charges and very soon will have a whole new record for you all to
listen too so... This IS your last chance. (Well last chance for free, still
got a lot of those "selected works of Friction" CD lying around the house.)
And Finally I will be performing at the Pinelands Folk Music Center in
Rancocas Woods this Sunday a 6pm. This is in Mt. Laurel, NJ close to
Philadelphia. The show starts at 6pm. If you are a dulcimer player on this
list, I will be teaching a workshop that starts at 4pm called, "thinking
outside the hourglass: tips and tricks for the dulcimer player"
That's all for now, probably the next time you hear from me it will be about
the new record.
C-ya out there.
