I agree with Brooke on the difference between a persona and a character, and I do think it is important for the audience to understand who/what they are dealing with, otherwise the interaction isn't "honest." If "honest" can be used in this context, that is!

I think the most important thing is to recognize that these incidents are simply further illustration that we still live in the nascent stages of ARGs and cross media storytelling, and that the people who create these games take away valuable best practices from them.

Open conversations such as this go a long way towards turning the negative into a positive.

My apologies in advance for not having anything provocative to say on the topic. I'm hoping Mr. Clark can pick up some of the slack.
