I agree with this, to an extent. In order for a game to appeal to a  
mass audience, you can't assume that players read or even know about  
*any* player-created resources. However, they do exist and a lot of  
people end up using them because, basically, they have to, and that's  
something that developers have to address.

On a related note, a lot of people think that UF players = hardcore  
players. I think that used to be true, but for most big new games,  
the majority of the posters on UF have never played an ARG before  
(this is certainly the case with PXC).
