[acimlessons_list] Spam and our list

Dear ones,

First, let me state emphatically that the Circle of Atonement does
not now, has never and never ever will sell email lists to anyone for any
reason, nor will we never ever give access to our email list for any reason.

Now, on to the issue at hand. Last Thursday, several pieces of spam
email made it to our list that appeared to come from our sister list owner.
The reason this email made it through this moderated list is because it
contained the "circleofa.com" domain, which was generically allowed for
announcements etc.

I have changed this setting. No one can send mail to the list now
except for Allen, me, and for one other person at the Circle, who fills in
occasionally when I am not available to send lessons.

Now, I understand several of you have received mail directly to your
email inbox not thru the list, using that same email address. Please
understand that this is a spoofed email address and not sent by us.
Spammers use "spider" software, spyware, and generic email address
generators in order to find, fake and send spam. Once they find a domain
that works, and especially, once they find a specific email address that is
a verified authentic address, they send ridiculous amounts of spam using
that email address.

Unless you subscribe to both of the circle lists, there is no reason
for your to accept email from acimwkbk_list-bounces (at) circleofa (dot)
com. Put this email address on the blacklist of your email scanner. What?
You don't have a scanner? There are several good email spam scanners,
including Norton's Internet Security, McAfee, Oulook Spam filter by
softlogica, and many others. I have no affiliation, I use both Norton, and
SoftLogica. Check reviews at cnet, pcworld, etc to find the one that will
work for you, or talk to a reputable IT person for help.

If you want, you can forward ONE SINGLE PIECE of spam email to me,
with full internet headers, so I can help you populate your blacklist. Send
that to my regular list email address.

One final thing, unsubscribing from this list will not stop that
spam. I already stopped that. Properly configuring email filters will
prevent it from getting into your inbox, but spammers are ruthless and
unforgiving. You'll get more, no matter how good we all are at trying to
foil it.

Blessings,
Sue Roth
